The Greatest Quality (John 17:24-26)

Rev. William L. BarronRev. William L. Barron, January 8, 2017
Part of the Morning Worship at North Greenville Church series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Love is a key attribute of God. He sent His Son to die for His people. Without this love, there would be no church. We are exhorted to show His love. The church at Ephesus was indicted for leaving its first love. We are told by Jesus that love for God and love for fellow man is the greatest of the commandments. In I Cor. 13, among faith, hope and love, the greatest is love. Love leads to joy, holiness, obedience, missions and unity. God sent this love into a wicked, fallen world. It pleased God to crush his Son, because He loves us so much, from the beginning. The love God shows his Son is the same love he shows for us. We need to show a costly love, or we have a negative witness of Christ's love. Jesus wants us to be with Him where he has gone, and to see His glory.

John 17:24–26 (Listen)

24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
