Justification By Faith Alone (Romans 1:16-17)

Rev. William L. BarronRev. William L. Barron, February 12, 2017
Part of the The Five Solas Of The Reformation series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

God has provided the answer to our willful separation from Him because of our sin. While we enter the Kingdom individually by profession of faith, we are then not alone; part of the community called the Body of Christ. Saving grace is a gift, as is sustaining grace that sees us through this world and into the next. The Church stands or falls according to our adherence to the doctrine of justification by faith alone. This doctrine, "the righteous shall live by faith," is stated four times throughout the Bible, starting with the prophet Habakkuk. From this flows the fruit of conversion: repentance, adoption, peace and access to God.

Romans 1:16–17 (Listen)

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
