A Picture Of The Church (1 Samuel 22:1-4)
Rev. William L. Barron, April 30, 2017Part of the Morning Worship at North Greenville Church series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
David, his loyal followers and his family were threatened by Saul. They fled to a cave in Moab where the people were descendants of Lot. They were a bunch of misfits who were committed to David as their captain. This is a picture of the Church to come. This is similar to Paul ministering to the misfits in Corinth, who were in no way part of the elite. This is also like the parable of the wedding feast, to which no one came. The servants were sent out to gather in anyone who would come; robbers and thieves--misfits. It is also like the day of judgement, in which the elect from the four winds will be gathered in. These misfits in every case are called by God, living in exile in a world that is not their home, and following an ordained leader; one who has the Truth.

1 Samuel 22:1–4 (Listen)
22:1 David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him. 2 And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became commander over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.
3 And David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother stay with you, till I know what God will do for me.” 4 And he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.
