Reformation Sunday Message on ‘Servant And Steward’

Pastor Barron will preach this Sunday from I Corinthians 4:1-5. Also, we will remember the blessings of the Reformation brought forth through Martin Luther in 1517. He defended, among other doctrines, that the Bible should be the supreme rule by which all teachings should be subordinated and that salvation comes only by grace through faith and not by deeds.

Five hundred years ago, Luther was summoned to Augsburg, Germany, to defend his doctrines over a span of 3 days before an imperial diet (assembly). Luther refused to recant his arguments against indulgences. This month 500 years ago, Pope Leo X declared Luther’s writings as conflicting with church teaching.

By-Laws Amendments To Be Presented For Congregational Vote

The Session is suggesting that the church allow for an additional membership class, that of Associate Member. This requires an amendment to the By-Laws. The proposed text of these amendments will be presented for discussion as an agenda item for the called congregational meeting on November 11 that will also include the presentation of the slate of Elder and congregational officer candidates. A second called congregational meeting is scheduled for November 18 at which the congregation will vote on the By-Laws amendments.

Tabletalk Moment

The One To Whom We Speak:  “…we must ever be in awe of our Creator. When we approach Him in prayer, we must remember who He is–the Lord God Almighty who is deserving of all honor, glory, and praise. We must bow to His greatness, worshiping Him and remembering that He upholds us by His grace.”  (October 22, page 54).
