This Sunday Pastor Barron brings a message from Hebrews 2:5-18 entitled “Everything in Subjection to Christ”. The theme of this study in Hebrews is an emphasis on how the Scriptures authoritatively point to the supremacy of Christ.
Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. Heb 2:8b, 9
It was by his redemptive work that Christ fulfilled all that was required as the chief representative of man before God’s judgment. It was by his Incarnation, substitutionary sacrifice, and victory over sin and death that he restored man’s original purpose. For a short time he was lower than the angels; now he has glory and honor, and all things, including the angels, are subject to him. Now, praise and thanksgiving is afforded to Jesus, who has not only called us, but has firmly fixed our salvation for us.
