Transformation And Contentment (Philippians 4:11-13)
Rev. Max Bolin, May 28, 2017Part of the Morning Worship at North Greenville Church series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
What causes us to lack contentment? Often it is something in our past, something that we have done wrong connected with our job, our family and so forth. We lack hope. We tend to think, "If only I have more (...), I will be content." Finding such and thing and becoming content as a result rarely happens. The Apostle Paul was content in every situation. We all know the deprivations he experienced; how can this be. The answer--Jesus and the salvation He brought to Paul, and to us as well. We were dead and without hope; now we have life--abundant and accompanied by contentment. We are declared not guilty before a righteous Judge and are free from guilt. We are given all that is necessary for life, both inner strength and outward provision. We can trust God to be faithful in life and death. As new creations, we can live as God intends, blessed by the fruits of the Spirit. We can confess our sins so that they don't persist as burdens. The result is transformed lives with true contentment in Christ alone.

Philippians 4:11–13 (Listen)
11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
